RECORDING WITH RUFUS HARRIS (continued from Homepage)
As some of you already know, we had a few fund raisers last year for our second CD project. The intention was to update my home studio equipment with the funds that were raised so that we could produce a much better sounding second CD. I purchased new equipment with the funds and started recording. After beginning work on several songs (actually six), it became apparent that it was going to take much longer than hoped for. With our ministry tour on the horizon, we decided to do another project with an "unplugged" format (i.e. nothing but vocals, guitar, and piano) which could be done much quicker, so that we'd have two CDs for the road and it worked out great. We then recorded a fifteen song project called "Not Our Own - Unplugged."
We had to move out of our house before the trip and put everything in storage. We were gone for ten weeks, living out of our van. This really slowed the recording down. We got back in early December and it took a few weeks before we were settled in a new place. Then, Christmas, New Years, taxes (unfortunately not just for 2007), and so on. I've had to do a lot of home improvement work as well to keep the cash flowing. In a nutshell, the project has been "stuck in the mud" for the past several months and we believe God showed us it time to get some assistance with the project.
Rufus Harris has many years under his belt as a professional studio engineer. He has produced complete projects for several artists and also has three of his own CD projects which are outstanding works. He is himself a performing Christian musician which really helps too. I have full confidence in his ability to produce a completely professional project.
I do plan to continue recording but on a smaller, more focused scale, leaving the more difficult tasks to a professional. It was truly a very hard decision for me to make, but now that I have, I'm excited to get the project moving again. Please pray for God's blessing upon the recording process and for His anointing to be upon the songs.
